This cog is usually always broken on the Grundig 2×4 1600 machines. It moves left and right and engages the movement of the reels. For some reason, these cogs were made from poor quality plastic that falls to pieces, and until now, there’s been no fix available.
The new 3d printed cogs were bought in from Europe many years ago and work really well. They do seem to be “noisy” compared to the originals in FF and RW, but this doesn’t affect operation. Each cog needs the centre enlarging slightly with a small drill bit so they fit onto the original mounting plate. Perhaps this was just my experience though.
